Quick Answers

Does BetterGiving charge any fee to use its platform?

BetterGiving does not charge any platform fees. It is completely free for donors to give and for organizers to create fundraising campaigns.

Please note: While we charge no fees, standard payment processing fees from our third-party partners (like Stripe) may apply to transactions.

How Transaction Fees Are Calculated for Fundraisers?

This demo example uses the UK Standard Card fee: 1.5% + £0.20 per transaction. This rate is set by Stripe and may change anytime without any notice.

Important to remember:

  • 1.5% is applied to the amount of each individual transaction
  • 20p is charged for every transaction
  • The total fee depends on how many transactions the total donation is split into

The fundraiser receives the total amount raised minus the Stripe transaction fee, which depends on the number of transactions and the value of each donation.

Demo Example:

Total Amount Raised Number of Transactions Total Stripe Fee Fundraiser Receives
£100 1 £1.50 + £0.20 = £1.70 £98.30
£100 5 £1.50 + £1.00 = £2.50 £97.50
£100 10 £1.50 + £2.00 = £3.50 £96.50
What Is a Transaction Fee?

A transaction fee is a small charge applied by online payment processors like Stripe—not by BetterGiving.

Stripe charges this fee to cover the cost of:

  • Processing debit and credit card payments
  • Handling secure transfers
  • Maintaining banking and payment infrastructure
  • Ensuring donations are delivered safely and efficiently

These fees are automatically deducted by Stripe before the funds are transferred. BetterGiving does not add anything on top of Stripe’s fee.

Are donors charged any fees to make donation through BetterGiving?

No. Donors never pay any platform fees when making a contribution through Better Giving.

How does Better Giving operate without charging any fees?

BetterGiving exists to support charitable work by offering a fundraising platform that is completely free for donors and fundraisers. Although running a secure and reliable platform involves costs, these are covered entirely by our own financial resources.

We also provide an optional tipping feature for anyone who wishes to support us. Tipping is fully voluntary, and choosing not to tip will never restrict or affect your ability to use our services.

However, we would appreciate any support to help us keep our valuable operations running.

What types of crowdfunding does BetterGiving support?

BetterGiving Platform only supports: i) Donation-based crowdfunding; and ii) Reward-based crowdfunding.

Examples of our crowdfund include:

  • Medical & Emergency Relief
  • Community & Social Causes
  • Education & Scholarships
  • Animal Welfare
  • Memorial & Legacy Funds
